Sangeet

The word “Sangeet “ means music, but when it is used as a term to describe a celebratory event during an Indian wedding it translates to Music Night or Musical party. This musical night is a celebration of the union of not only the couple but the bonding of both families. It is here that both sides bring down their barriers and mingle in a fun environment with family dance performances.

Sangeet outfits are glamorous and sparkly. They can include any colours ranging from light to dark themes.

Chooda (Bride’s Side)

A Chooda means a set of bangles, traditionally implied to be a set of 21 bangles in red and white/ ivory as a sign of good luck! It is worn by the bride on the day of the wedding. It is covered with a cloth as she is not allowed to see it is (considered to be inauspicious).

Followed by the Chooda Ceremony, once the bride is ready, is Kalire. Kalire is umbrella-shaped hangings tied to the Chooda (bangles). After the Kalire is tied, the bride shakes her hands on the heads of her unmarried friends. It is believed that if any part of the Kalire falls on the head of any girl she will get married soon.

Chooda Outfits are meant to be simple and warm.

Vatna ( Groom’s Side)

The Vatna is a traditional ritual where a yellow turmeric paste is rubbed onto the groom’s face, arms, and legs. The turmeric, flour, and mustard oil paste is applied to make the skin look radiant for the wedding. After this ritual, the bride and groom are constrained from meeting each other until the wedding ceremony.

Outfits are incredibly simple.
